Across Britain and Ireland: A new blog series from the Centre on Constitutional Change

Image of Britain and Ireland viewed through a magnifying glass

Twenty-eight years after the Belfast/ Good Friday Agreement and on the eve of the elections for the Scottish Parliament and Wesh Senedd, it is time to bring new thinking to the changing constitutional order across Britain and both parts of Ireland. The national questions in Scotland, Wales, Ireland north and south and even England are unresolved. The UK Government is seeking to reverse the most damaging effects of Brexit without actually rejoining the EU or its central pillars. The British party system no longer serves to unite the Union the way it did in the past. Global turbulence puts in question the UK’s role as a medium-sized economic and military power with internal divisions. Demands for secession referendums are loud in Northern Ireland, Scotland and even Wales. Fundamental questions about sovereignty and borders remain to be answered.

The blog posts will reflect original thinking and new research on these issues. The project is led by scholars in Britain and Ireland as well as the United States. The posts will reflect the best of work being done across these islands as well as Europe, North America and beyond.

Blog proposals are welcomed. Guidance can be found here
